The Fall and Spring Semester ESL Program
In the fall and spring semesters, the ESL Program offers academic classes that are designed to prepare students for mainstream university work. Here are some features of the academic program:
-
Students take four classes: reading, writing, speaking-listening, and structure (grammar).
-
The classes earn academic credit. Full-time undergraduate students register for 12 hours of credit per semester and may apply up to 8 hours of credit toward an undergraduate degree. If you are not familiar with the American credit system, you might want to view a Power Point slideshow to learn more.
-
The classes prepare students for study in an American university setting. Students work on listening to lectures and note-taking, making presentations, writing compositions, expanding their academic vocabulary, improving their written and spoken grammar, and using the library. You can view a Power Point slideshow to learn more about what happens in a typical classroom.
-
Students receive grades for these classes. If you want to know more about the grading system used at North Park, you can view a Power Point slideshow.
