University Breakfast Series
On April 24, 2013, Renee Borkowski, vice president of strategic marketing at Razorfish, North Park alumna, and current member of the University's board of trustees, delivered the keynote presentation. Mark Farano Scholarship Winner
The School of Business and Nonprofit Management is proud to announce that Zachariah Massey was named this year’s recipient of the Mark Farano Memorial Scholarship. Each year, the Farano Scholarship is awarded to an MBA student who demonstrates strong academic performance and leadership capability. Zachary is currently the director of operations at Beyond the Ball and has also excelled academically here at North Park.
Beyond the Ball is an organization that uses the power of sports to change lives, give hope, reclaim space, and develop a culture of opportunities for youth and families in Chicago. Previously, Zachary served as community programs director and administrator for La Villita Community Church. Additionally, he founded a local collaborative of faith leaders addressing youth violence, served on the steering committee for Neighborhood Sports Little Village, and is a member of a local Violence Prevention Collaborative. Our congratulations to Zachary!
Delta Mu Delta Scholarship Recipient
Congratulations to Kristen Maldonado, SBNM graduate student, who was named a recipient of a 2012 Delta Mu Delta Regional Scholarship Award! Delta Mu Delta is the International Honor Society in Business.
Ministers With MBAs

CHICAGO (August 7, 2012) — When Steve Hoden was making a career change, from high school science teacher to pastor for the Evangelical Covenant Church, he chose a seminary not only for its denominational affiliation but also for the training it could give him in business.
Hoden graduated in 2011 from North Park University with both a master’s in divinity and a master’s in nonprofit administration. Before long, he found himself as both pastor and sole employee at a church in Hector, Minn., a small town — population 1,100 — an hour's drive west of Minneapolis. Read the full article.
North Park University Graduates Find Value in Dual Seminary, Business Degrees
Graduate dual-degree programs improved, better integrated
CHICAGO (June 26, 2012) – North Park University has improved its graduate dual-degree programs that combine theological instruction from the University's North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS) with business and nonprofit administration education, offered through the University's School of Business and Nonprofit Management (SBNM). Graduates of these educational programs say their dual degrees have helped them in their ministries and opened up career paths. Read the full article.
New Second Summer Quad Beginning 2012–2013 Academic Year
Beginning with the 2013 summer semester, SBNM will offer two, seven-week summer quads. This change directly responds to student feedback suggesting a strong preference for the ability to take courses throughout the summer. The addition of a second summer quad offers several advantages for SBNM students, including:
- The opportunity to finish certificates and degrees more quickly by taking a greater number of courses in the summer
- Facilitating eligibility for federal loans in the summer semester
Students who wish to obtain loans must take two courses in the summer, and can now do this consecutively over two quads, instead of during a single summer quad.
