About the School of Education
Mission Statement
The School of Education strives to prepare competent, respectful, and reflective professionals who are dedicated to serving diverse learning communities.
The School of Education’s mission emphasizes the dedication of our entire unit toward the preparation of competent, respectful and reflective professionals who are dedicated to serving diverse learning communities.
The goals of the teacher program emanate from our mission:
- To prepare a competent teaching professional who has a strong knowledge base, possesses effective teaching skills, is able to design and align appropriate assessment tools, and exhibits ethical behavior as a teacher.
- To prepare a respectful teaching professional who communicates collaboratively with a variety of educational groups: students, teachers, administrators, media, peers, parents, and local communities, and has respect for the community of learners and the learning process itself.
- To prepare a reflective teaching professional who examines pedagogy, practice and policy in a purposeful, philosophical, and continuous manner recognizing the diversity of world views and interpretations, including a personal history which shapes the individual’s values, beliefs, truths, and reality.
- To prepare a teaching professional who serves others, and understands that service contributes to personal and professional growth.
