Additional Certification

Teachers who want to expand upon grade levels or content areas they can teach or specialized teachers who want to add a general, self-contained certificate can obtain their subsequent certificate through North Park University. Obtaining additional certification allows a teacher to be more diverse, mobile, and most important, more marketable.

North Park University is authorized by the Illinois State Board of Education to provide special, individualized certification programs for candidates who already hold a teaching certificate. Eligibility for a special, individualized program at North Park University is determined on a case-by-case basis following a review of the prospective candidate’s documentation, background, and current teaching situation. The review of the prospective candidate's documentation will take into consideration his or her prior academic and teaching performance, age and grade levels of students with which the candidate has worked with, and currency of coursework and experiences.

A School of Education advisor will review your application and documentation to devise an individualized plan of coursework and clinical experiences to obtain an additional teaching certificate.
