Starting Out

The School of Education has programs to help you become certified to teach the age and subject of your choice. Students in the School of Education can choose to become certified in 15 areas. All of the programs are fully accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education and lead to certification in the State of Illinois.

To choose the program suited for you, first decide the age or grade of students with whom you want to work.

If you want to help young children develop language, motor, and social skills, early childhood may be for you.

If you want to help students learn to read and write, elementary grades may be for you.

If you want to help students learn information and skills in science, math, or social studies, secondary grades may be for you.

If you want to work with students of several ages in a specific area, a K-12 certificate in art, French, music, Spanish, or physical education may be your choice.
