Admission Requirements

Teacher Certification or MA Students

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited, state-recognized institution
  • Completed application and personal essay
  • Three professional letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended, with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above on a 4.00 scale
  • Passing scores on the Illinois Basic Skills Test (Teacher Certification students only)
  • GRE or MAT test scores (M.A. students only)
  • Personal Interview

Master of Arts with Teacher Certification (combined) Students

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited, state-recognized institution
  • Completed application and personal essay
  • Three professional letters of recommendation
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended, with a 2.75 overall grade point average and a 3.0 in their major content area
  • Passing scores on the Illinois Basic Skills Test
  • GRE or MAT test scores
  • Personal Interview

Endorsement Program Students

  • Completed application
  • Official transcripts from college and/or universities where you completed or are currently pursuing your teacher education program
  • Completion of or in the process of completing a recognized teacher education program

International Students

  • In addition to the above requirements, international students seeking certification must also submit:
  • A bank statement from a source of support
  • A certificate of finance
  • An evaluation of non-U.S. transcripts by Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE) or its equivalent
  • Immunization record
  • Official TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) score
  • Students working from a deficiency statement
  • Completed application
  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Copy of deficiency statement
