Graduate Nursing:
Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner

Description

Nurse practitioners are integral to front-line, primary health care in a variety of settings such as hospitals, clinics, schools, community centers, and workplaces. The Adult-Gerontology Advanced Practice Nursing track prepares graduates to fully respond to an aging population and emerging health care demands with the knowledge and skills to provide care for adults across their entire life span.

The master’s curriculum focuses on the delivery of comprehensive care from young adult through older adult and frail elderly. Classroom and practicum experiences provide students with opportunities to focus on the unique life stage needs that impact a patient’s care across the adult age spectrum.

The expanded focus on gerontologic nursing in the Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner program meets new nurse practitioner competency requirements approved by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and endorsed by 45 national nursing organizations.

Upon successful completion of this concentration, graduates are qualified to take the ANP certification exam offered through the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
