Graduate Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner

Description

Nurse practitioners are integral to front-line, primary health care in a variety of settings such as community centers, schools, workplaces, clinics, hospitals, and industry. Nurse practitioners focus on health promotion and maintenance, and they diagnose and manage acute, episodic illness and injuries as well as stable chronic conditions. Nurse practitioners are widely recognized for offering high-quality, cost-effective services.

In the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track, students develop specialized skills in family-centered care and in the management of pediatric, women’s, and adult health. A newly added advanced practice course in gerontologic nursing prepares graduates for the care of adults across their life span. The FNP curriculum meets new nurse practitioner competency requirements approved by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and endorsed by 45 national nursing organizations.

Upon successful completion of this concentration, graduates are qualified to take the FNP certification exam offered through the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
