Benefits of North Park's Graduate Nursing Education
With a tradition that dates back over 120 years, North Park has been preparing students for lives of significance and service. Our graduate and post-graduate nursing programs are designed to fully prepare nurses for the transformations that will shape the future of health care delivery. These programs prepare professionals for an advanced nursing role, to provide leadership in health care and in the nursing profession, and to participate in the formulation and refinement of nursing science.
Enjoy a convenient course schedule
Designed specifically for working nurses, graduate classes are offered in the evenings once a week at our Main Campus in Chicago. The School of Nursing also offers some graduate nursing courses at our Arlington Heights campus.
Face-to-face instruction
You will benefit from excellent face-to-face instruction while many courses incorporate online activities and assignments. North Park multicultural and urban setting offers the opportunity to learn rich and valuable information from your professors and your fellow students.
Complete your degree at your own pace
You can complete a master's degree in two years or become a nurse practitioner in three, but you can also study part-time and take courses at the pace you want. Students have five years to complete their selected program, yet the total time depends on the number of credit hours in your program and how many of those hours you complete each semester. You set your own pace to complete your degree. Most of our students work full time while going to school only one or two nights per week.
Increase your marketability
Students who complete an MS or post-MS program of study will be eligible to take the appropriate Specialty Certification Exam. Depending on the program chosen, MS and post-MS graduates may seek new job positions as nurse practitioners, earn better pay, or work in leadership positions in the health care industry.
Become a more effective communicator
Many employers cite communication skills as one of the most important criteria in hiring new employees. You'll sharpen your written and oral communication skills throughout the program, which can help you immediately in your workplace.
Design your own practicum
You can further your educational and professional goals by tailoring your practicum experience to specific areas of interest. The North Park University campus and surrounding area offer excellent resources. Ideas about practicum placement may be derived from a student's own knowledge and experience or from consultation with nursing faculty in your selected concentration.
