Important Update to Graduate Program Policies- September 2010
Academic progress is evaluated at the end of each semester. Based upon academic or practicum performance faculty may recommend or require additional academic work (e.g. writing assistance, readings, additional practicum experiences).
No more than one C+ or lower course grade may be earned in the graduate nursing program. Should a C+ or lower be earned in any graduate level course, the student MUST repeat that course. The repeated course must be taken in the next semester in which it is offered. The student may NOT register for any additional graduate courses until the course of concern is remediated with a minimum grade of “B”. If this student then earns a Grade of C+ or lower in another course, the student will be dismissed from the program.
All graduate nursing students are required to maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 will be placed on academic probation. The student on academic probation will be given the opportunity to complete an additional six semesters hours of graduate study in order to raise his or her cumulative GPA to 3.0 or higher. Academic probation is NOT extended to students who earn a cumulative GPA lower than 3.0 during their first (at-large) semester at North Park, NOR is it extended to any any students who have earned a cumulative GPA of lower than 3.0 due to earning a second C+ or lower in the program. If a student has earned a grade of C+ or less in a course, that student must repeat the course within the next semester. The student will be dismissed from the program if the cumulative GPA is not raised to 3.0 upon completion of these six semester hours.
If a student earns a grade of C+ or less in any course that is a co-requisite to a practicum or earns a C+ in any practicum course, both the practicum course and it co-requisite theory course must be repeated. For instance a student that earns a C+ in either Adult Health Management 1 OR in its co-requisite course Practicum: Adult Health Management 1 must repeat BOTH courses in the next semester.
Effective: 2010 - 2011 School Year.
