Meet Sarah Richmond

Sarah Richmond is a sophomore transfer student who grew up in Glenview, Illinois. After first studying at the University of Iowa, this nursing major transferred to North Park, and is glad she made the transition.

How did you hear about North Park?

I learned about North Park while searching online for nursing programs.

What's different about North Park from your last school?

I transferred from a school of about 20,000 people — where no one recognizes anyone — to this much smaller school where all of my professors know my name.

What was your transfer experience like?
Was anything particularly difficult?

I felt some pressure to open up and meet people. I transferred in during the spring semester and it felt as if people had already made their groups of friends. The experience made me more outgoing as people were very accepting and inviting.

What activities do you enjoy here at North Park?

I sing in the Gospel Choir and love working out at Helwig Recreation Center.

What is your favorite North Park sports team?

The football team — go Vikings!

Do you have any advice for other transfer students?

I would encourage transfer students to be themselves, open up, and be approachable. People won’t bite! Join activities, it’s the best way to meet people.

Academically, I've found it is important to make time to study and limit the distractions during study time. Trying to plan study time in accordance with close friends is great — we're not tempted to hang out and miss study time.

And finally, setting goals is important to being successful!
