Transfer Tips for the Year
These monthly tips and suggestions can help you make the most of your first semester here at North Park University.
January
Social
- Introduce yourself to your professors and classmates
- Email your faculty advisor and introduce yourself
- Connect with Bridge Events, Voyage, and OrgSync
Academic
Campus Life
- Familiarize yourself with the information throughout the transfer web section, including guides for understanding your Transfer of Credits Evaluation
- Set up your network account and check your Vikings email account
- Develop a personal schedule that includes work responsibilities, team responsibilities, your class schedule, and study time
- Complete the online Helwig Release Form so you can use the fitness facilities at Helwig Recreation Center
- Purchase a parking pass from Student Administrative Services for access to campus parking lots
- $100 for commuters students
- $200 for residential students
- Create a payment plan with a financial counselor from Student Administrative Services. If you are on a 5-month payment plan, the first payment is due at the end of January.

- Email your faculty advisor to introduce yourself and set up a meeting
- Create your academic time line: identify what classes you have left to take and when you plan on completing them
- Join a group tutoring session or seek out other assistance

- Attend the Voyage event, "Pursuing Your Career over the Summer," Wednesday, March 28, noon–1:00 pm, in Aramark (lunch provided). Register through OrgSync.
- Take a trip and enjoy Spring Break
Academic
- Create a list of classes you would like to register for in the fall; consider taking summer classes
- Meet with your faculty advisor in order to prepare for registration
- Seek advice from your faculty advisor and other professors on your major choice
- Register for classes (current students)
Campus Life
- Check your Vikings email; this is where the University will send important registration details and official email
- Explore job and internship options for the summer and fall
- Talk to a counselor in the Career Development and Internships Office about your career interests and how you can use your next few years of college to make sure you're on the right track
- Volunteer in the neighborhood or wider community; find opportunities on your own or partner with University Ministries
- Seek counsel from a professor you feel comfortable talking to about your career interests and potential paths to get there
- Make any necessary financial arrangements with Student Administrative Services for this and future semesters
- Think about housing for next semester

- Cheer on the championship Vikings Baseball team
- Attend the Voyage event, "Academic Advancement: Registration for Fall classes, Completing your General Education Courses, and Where to Find the Academic Information You Need on the Website," Wednesday, April 4, noon–1:00 pm in Aramark (lunch provided). Register through OrgSync.

- Look into scholarship and other financial aid options for the fall semester
- Participate in a Bridge Event
