Looking at the Black Experience
Africana Studies is an interdisciplinary program that applies a scholarly approach to an examination of the Black experience from an Afrocentric perspective. The program views the Black experience through the lenses of several traditional disciplines including sociology, theology, history, politics, economics and art production.
Bringing Uncommon Depth to a Career
North Park University students may pursue a major or minor in Africana Studies. A bachelor of arts in the discipline opens doors to a variety of fields including social service, public relations, immigration assistance, and media communications. Africana Studies graduates work as archivists, public relations specialists, non-profit administrators, human resource specialists, local church ministers, community organizers, and multicultural program coordinators.
A minor in Africana Studies deepens the background of students who major in Global Studies, Sociology, Biblical and Theological Studies, Conflict Resolution, Education, History, or Youth Ministry.
