Seven Steps to Study Abroad

  1. Read through the Study Abroad Handbook to learn about North Park requirements and procedures.
  2. Think about where and when you want to study abroad. Discuss your thoughts with your family and your academic advisor.
  3. Meet with the Director of the International Office to discuss and refine your options.
  4. Submit a North Park Study Abroad Application. Applications are due in the January of the school year prior to the year in which the program runs.
  5. Meet with the Director of the International Office and/or a selection committee to interview for your program.
  6. As appropriate, complete a secondary application for your particular study abroad program (ISEP, CCCU, and bilateral exchange partners). Applications deadlines and procedures vary; check with the Director of the International Office for more information. Please note that acceptance as a North Park study abroad candidate does not guarantee acceptance into a particular study abroad program.
  7. Enroll in GBLS 1000: Pre-Study Abroad Seminar in the semester before your program. This new course, launched in Spring 2010, is required of all study abroad students and covers intercultural communication and adaptation, host country research methodologies, and basic orientation and health/safety information.
