Youth Ministry at North Park University
The youth ministry program at North Park University takes a three-pronged approach to education:
- Know, which focuses on a foundation of knowledge and theories
- Do, which allows students to get involved in youth ministry firsthand throughpracticum and internship opportunities
- Be, which focuses on character, values, and a student's personal relationships with Christ.
North Park University's location in a diverse urban neighborhood and the many service opportunities provided by the Outreach Ministries program give students plenty of opportunities to minister to kids from a variety of cultures, educations, and backgrounds. Youth ministry students can befriend and tutor junior high students from nearby schools through the After Hours drop-in center on campus or get a firsthand look at issues such as AIDS or homelessness and hunger through the many service projects sponsored by Urban Outreach.
The youth ministry major is a joint program sponsored and taught by the undergraduate and seminary faculties. Through a combination of course work and supervised field training, the Center for Youth Ministry Studies seeks to train men and women to ministry effectively to youth and their families, churches, and communities.
