Center for Scandinavian Studies
Endowed by the Hugo A. Anderson Chair in Scandinavian Studies in 1982 and created in 1984, the Center for Scandinavian Studies (CSS) at North Park University has firmly established itself as a major focal point for Scandinavian academic and cultural interests in Chicago. As the name suggests, the CSS provides North Park University with a Scandinavian accent not evident at many other colleges or universities. The CSS sponsors visiting professors, lectures, language courses, concerts, and exhibits, bringing many talented and accomplished Scandinavians to the city of Chicago. Charles Peterson, dean of University faculty at North Park, also serves as the director for the Center.

Sankta Lucia Pageant and Smörgåsbord
Saturday, December 7, 4:00 pm
Pageant in Anderson Chapel
Smörgåsbord to follow in Hamming Hall
Join us as a time-honored holiday tradition returns to campus for the 35th annual Sankta Lucia pageant and Scandinavian smörgåsbord on Saturday, December 7, at 4:00 pm. A Swedish celebration bringing faith, hope, and light in the midst of winter's darkness, the pageant is characterized by both song and storytelling. For North Park's annual pageant, the Center for Scandinavian Studies selects a senior female student from the program to play the role of Lucia, and she is accompanied by fellow classmates dressed as maidens, starboys, and other characters of the season.
