Will we receive a copy of our student’s grades?
Parents do not receive a copy of student’s grades. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 protects the student’s records. If the student is financially dependent on the parents (claimed as a dependent on IRS) parents may, on request, examine all student records and documents. Requests should be directed to the Center for Records and Registration. Note: Grades are held until all outstanding bills are paid.
Are residence halls open during breaks and vacations?
The residence halls are open during the short breaks but are closed during the winter and spring break periods.
Are jobs available for students who choose to work?
Students who qualify will be awarded a work-study job as part of their financial aid package. Students who do not receive work study can check with the Human Resources Department about other student employment opportunities.
If my son or daughter experiences some difficulty with academic work, who should I contact?
Most students experience some adjustment to college academic work. At the first sign of difficulty, the student should speak with the instructor involved and then visit the Center for Academic Services, which can assist with study skills and time management as well as connect the student with the Tutoring Center.
What if my son or daughter is having trouble choosing a major?
Students should first contact their academic advisor and/or the Center for Academic Services. Remember, for most students, the first year of college is exploratory. Taking a year to decide should not affect timely graduation.
If my son or daughter has some difficulty in the adjustments to college life and social involvement, whom should I contact?
There are several offices and people who are prepared to assist in this area, particularly the dean of student development, director of student care, director of counseling, resident directors, resident assistants, and the campus pastor.
When are tuition bills due and payable?
Tuition and room and board bills are due twice a year at the beginning of each semester (i.e., Fall and Spring). The student is billed in advance of the due date for an estimated amount based on the student’s pre-registration schedule as reported by the registrar, the room and board contract as reported by Residence Life, and the estimated aid as reported by the Financial Aid Office. Payment for those charges is due by the payment due date. The following are payment due dates for the 2009-2010 academic year:

- Fall semester new students: August 19, 2009
- Fall semester returning students: August 7, 2009
- Spring semester all students: January 4, 2010
After the second week of each semester, any unpaid balance will be subject to a finance charge of 1.5 percent per month.
