Cultural Awareness – Residence Life values the provision of opportunities and dialogue for students to gain awareness of cultural differences both in the United States and globally and, through this awareness, the development of a sensitivity of how to live together in a community composed of different cultural backgrounds.
Relationships
Communication Skills – Residence Life values helping students learn how to effectively articulate thoughts and questions, as well as helping them better learn to listen actively through verbal and written communication in a way that invites openness, critical thinking, and healthy response.
Conflict Resolution – Residence Life values aiding students in recognizing and appropriately handling conflicts when they occur and helping students take ownership and play an active part in their resolution by valuing all people involved.
Interdependence – Within the context of appropriate boundaries, Residence Life values offering opportunities through which students can develop relationships and learn the importance of sharing of themselves as well as investing in others' lives.
Personal Wholeness
Identity Development – Residence Life values helping students develop a life-long learning perspective as it relates to the questions "Who am I?" and "Whose am I?" and how the answers to those questions influence their vocation and calling.
Wholistic Development – Residence Life values providing arenas through which students are encouraged to explore and grow in their intellectual, emotional, relational, spiritual, and physical well-being.
Autonomy – Residence Life values facilitating conversations and activities that promote students' self-confidence and personal worth, and challenging students to ask questions and take ownership of their personal beliefs, values, and lifestyles.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Servant Leadership – Residence Life values helping individuals own their actions, empower team members, and consider the needs and gifts of others while encouraging individuals to exercise humility through tasks and interactions with others and demonstrate a willingness to serve in all capacities.
Responsibility/Ownership – Residence Life values accountability for responsibilities and commitments, using and prioritizing resources wisely, and being open to challenge and feedback in these areas.
Vision and Voice – Residence Life values helping students think outside the box, find purpose in their day-to-day decisions and interactions, and create and maintain the ability to communicate their views and ideas thus casting a vision for others to follow.
Goals – Residence Life values challenging students to develop intrinsic motivation to set and achieve goals through effective problem solving while maintaining and developing their integrity and strength of character.
COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS
Educational Development – In collaboration with other offices on the campus of North Park, and through the use of educational programming, Residence Life values conversing with students about classroom and co-curricular learning by asking questions, giving constructive feedback, and guiding students in the development of time-management and decision-making skills. All of this is an effort to promote life-long learning.
Social Justice – In collaboration with other North Park offices, Residence Life values education and dialogue providing opportunities for students to become aware and proactively engage as justice advocates in the greater community.
Spiritual Formation – While holding to Christian discipleship and a sound biblical foundation, and in collaboration with other North Park offices, Residence Life values nurturing students' exploration of their worldviews and faith through sharing personal experiences about God and ultimately challenging students to own and integrate their faith into their daily lives.
