Students who completed their education in an English-speaking school

Alien residents of the USA, foreign nationals and American students who completed their secondary education in an English-speaking school, but have learned another language formally or informally, may take a language proficiency exam in the language they know. The student is responsible for finding a person competent to conduct the exam in the language in question. The test administrator must be an employee of a four-year institution. The student must demonstrate proficiency equal to at least the first year, level 1020, of formal study in the language.

At the beginning of each academic year, North Park University offers proficiency exams in French, German, Korean, Spanish, and Swedish.

To complete the proficiency exam at a time other than the beginning of the academic year, contact North Park’s Foreign Language Department or contact another 4-year university or college to arrange for a proficiency exam.

If the student successfully passes the 1020 level proficiency exam they are exempt from the foreign language requirement. North Park University does not award credit for the 1010/1020 level.

The student is subject to pay any testing and posting fees charged by North Park University or another 4-year university administering the proficiency exam. The student must follow the Credit by Examination guidelines.
