CC teams finish seventh at CCIW Championships
CHICAGO, IL (November 3, 2009) – The North Park cross country teams both finished seventh at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships in Elmhurst Saturday.
On the men’s side, which finished with 198 points, freshman Bryan Foland took 19th place overall with a time of 28:06. He was also the fifth fastest freshman in the field of eight schools. Junior Chris Roe followed with a 38th place finish (29:09) and senior James Williams was 44th with a 30:21. Also finishing strong for the men’s team was freshman Miguel Medina (48th, 31:17) and senior Matt Kim (49th, 31:22).
“When Bryan came in we told him he would get the opportunity to race the best and he has already come a long way as a freshman,” North Park coach Tracey McGarry said. “This is just the start of his development as a solid collegiate runner.”
For the women’s team, which tallied 238 points, senior Sara Dwight led the pack as she finished 43rd with a time of 27:01. Freshman Laura Sorg followed with a 45th place finish, clocking a 27:43, and junior Jacque Fisher was 47th with a 29:01. Also finishing strong for the women were senior Bree McLuen (49th, 30:11) and sophomore Erin Hegarty (54th, 35:23).
“We could not be more pleased for women,” McGarry said. “We had been going into the meet with some injury and sickness and just asked each runner to do their best and they were able to move forward and beat Millikin by the narrowest of margins. For the men there is a bit of disappointment for our seniors but know that we will be a force fighting for that 4th spot in the coming years.”
North Park takes the weekend off to prepare for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Nov. 14 in Winneconne, Wis. The women’s race begins at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s race at 12 p.m.
