CHICAGO, IL (October 31, 2009) – North Park goalkeeper Joe Cindric saved a penalty kick in the second half of Saturday’s contest against conference rival North Central to preserve a 1-0 victory and keep the Vikings’ hopes alive for a final spot in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin tournament.

The Vikings, who were leading 1-0, had been called for a hand ball in the box in the 66th minute, but Cindric kept Micah Melendrez from tying the score. The stop was one of seven saves by Cindric.

Tyler Heaps scored the game’s lone goal in the 18th minute on an assist by Pablo Del Torro. Heaps’ shot glanced off a North Central defender and past goalkeeper Phillip Klipp, who had a dozen saves during the match. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 8-10, overall and 2-4 in the CCIW.

The Vikings finished their seventh straight season with 10 or more wins as they finished with a 10-5-3 overall record and a 3-2-2 mark (fifth place) in the CCIW.
