Join Match Corps: Chicago, a full-time, in-school, professional tutoring fellowship overseen by Match Education. We are seeking smart, idealistic, relentless people for the 2014-2015 school year. Fellows tutor math in some of the lowest performing public high schools across the City of Chicago. Each Fellow works with two students at a time for each period of the school day, and will have a personal caseload of 12-13 students for the entire school year. Fellows drive student achievement by providing individualized instruction, and by building personal and meaningful relationships with students and their families. 

Match is working with the University of Chicago Crime Lab as part of a two year gold-standard clinical study examining effective ways to reduce violent crimes and drive academic performance in adolescent males. Here are some media highlights about the research and our work so far:

Currently, we have a career opportunity as a Medical Technologist 2. 

The Medical Technologist draws blood and accepts specimens and subsequently performs diagnostic testing for Northwestern University students. Manual and automatic techniques are utilized on a variety of biologic specimens, whose results are then used in the diagnosis and treatment of students in collaboration with other Health Service professionals.

Employee works with a variety of biological specimens and has the potential to be exposed to infectious specimens and sharps on a daily basis. Employee also must interact with patients who often are not comfortable in a healthcare setting and physically respond negatively to specimen collection. Although work hours are defined, staff must be available to perform testing after hours without notice in order to provide the best patient care. Rotation of Saturday work hours is required. When the Lab Supervisor is not present, this position must assume responsibility for the lab and its actions.

This position is part-time, 20 hours per week.

This critical role:

• Performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates a broad range of Laboratory procedures in the disciplines of Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Serology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis, the results of which are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients;
• Records, reports and monitors all results obtained from the above analyses following the proper University, FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and other regulatory bodies’ procedural guidelines, which includes results delivered from reference laboratories that must be integrated with internal results;
• Obtains, prepares, and handles all laboratory specimens required for the above analyses, which includes knowledge of the proper preparation of specimens sent out for reference laboratory testing.
• Utilizes knowledge of the Laboratory Information System (LIS), Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other personal computer applications as it applies to the reporting and maintenance of essential laboratory data;
• Performs, records, and evaluates Quality Control (QC) testing before reporting clinical test results, and maintaining an understanding of QC principles in order to take appropriate corrective action when warranted;
• Insures reliable and accurate laboratory data used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients;
• Answers questions from students as well as Professional staff regarding test results, methodology, sensitivity and specificity, and result interpretation, which requires knowledge of normal ranges to correlate with clinical conditions and to initiate follow-up testing following established protocols;
• Maintains a clean and safe work area for staff and students (customers) in accordance with OSHA, FDA, COLA (Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation), and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment) standards;
• Maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs of Laboratory equipment, with the ability to recognize and resolve technical problems that affect test results together with maintaining, monitoring, and keeping records of an adequate inventory of testing supplies, assuring all supplies are labeled regarding received dates and expiration dates;
• Responds to problems, both physical and emotional that arise with patients in response to specimen collection;
• Understands physiologic processes and basic first aid principles;
• Maintains the smooth operation of a busy clinical laboratory;
• Maintains knowledge and enhances professional growth through active participation in continuing education activities, and review of current literature;
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• A bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
• Certification as an MT (ASCP) or CLS (MT);
• Completion of phlebotomy rotation or previous job experience in phlebotomy;
• At least 2 years of clinical laboratory experience;
• Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Technology principles, practices, concepts and theories;
• Demonstrated knowledge of QC and QA (Quality Assurance) principles and practices;
• Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment to analyze and interpret laboratory results;
• Demonstrated ability to perform safe and effective phlebotomy techniques;
• Documented experience in working with various types of laboratory instrumentation;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate in an effective, professional, and confidential manner with other healthcare team members.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Meets all minimum requirements and in addition has at least one year of work experience in an outpatient clinical lab setting;
• Has attended continuing education events since completion of the degree program;
• Demonstrates ability to implement new techniques and procedures in the laboratory;
• Demonstrates the ability to perform in a fast-paced work environment brought on by the medical importance of the lab results generated;
• Demonstrates confidence in technical skills, communication skills, and problem-solving strategies resulting in the ability to make sound independent decisions under the pressure of a heavy workload;
• Demonstrates strong customer service skills with patients as well as other Health Care staff, respecting confidentiality at all times.

Description: Office Manager

  •  Organize the office for maximum efficiency
