Title: Associate Pastor

Overseer of: Ministry to Children, Youth and All Church Worship

Responsible to: Lead Pastor for day-to-day operations, as well as fulfilling responsibilities defined in the job description, defining goals, evaluation and communication of concerns related to the performance of the position. The Associate Pastor shall regularly consult with the Lead Pastor on plans, procedures, and implementation of established ministry vision and mission.

The Associate Pastor will be working closely with the Lead Pastor. Whether it is developing a vision calendar for the year or preaching in her absence, we are looking to the Associate Pastor to be a tag team for Jesus in our church family and surrounding community. We are looking for a person who is open to accountability while investing in church relationships with church staff, elders and congregation. Ultimately, the Associate Pastor is accountable to God, the Lead Pastor, the Elders and the Church Council.

Also, technology is an important part of the job. You need to have a working knowledge of computers and should be aware of how to use social media, basic video editing and presentation, online worship coordination, and basic graphic arts for church and community communication.

The Associate Pastor needs to be a self-starter and be able to recruit and train volunteers. We have committed lay leaders and teachers in place to work together in our mission. He or she must also believe in the biblical command to tithe and to live a generous life. We also require that our Worship Director be able to read music as well as lead us vocally. Being able to play one or more instruments is also needed.

We are not looking for a “Lone Ranger” or Super-Star. We desire a team player who isn’t just in the field, but is willing to call the plays on the field as they direct the team under the leadership of the Lead Pastor.

Primary Functions:

➢ The Associate Pastor will develop and oversee the Christian Discipleship and Education Ministry for children and youth, ages 4 through 18. The Associate Pastor will organize and implement a total education and ministry experience with the focus on evangelism, as well as the spiritual maturity of the believer. He or she will ensure that educational and discipleship goals are consistent with and compliment the goals and vision of Oak Hills Church.

➢ The Associate Pastor will also develop, oversee and direct the Worship Ministry, leading the general congregation into worship throughout the weekend service(s), coordinating with appropriate Pastors and Ministry Leaders. In general, the Associate Pastor will oversee the “Worship Arts” portion of our church. From leading the congregation into worship to developing eye catching media, actively adding to the overall worship experience in all church services.

➢ The Associate Pastor will regularly attend and provide appropriate leadership in all weekend services and all church events and meetings. The Associate Pastor will be available to the congregation before and after services as other duties allow.

➢ The Associate Pastor will function as assistant to the Lead Pastor in all church needs and demands. He or she must be competent in time-management, organization, as well as interpersonal relationships. This person must be able to work efficiently and effectively in team situations, as well as the ability to work independently.

➢ The Associate Pastor will recruit, train and equip all volunteer leadership for each area of designated ministry. He or she will continue to provide on-going training for leaders, teachers and facilitators. The Associate Pastor will also provide general spiritual, emotional and relational care to the volunteer leadership in the ministries of responsibility. He or she will continually train God’s people to do the work of the ministry and witness of the Gospel.

➢ The Associate Pastor will work with the Lead Pastor to provide on-going communication and training for families.

➢ The Associate Pastor will work with the Lead Pastor to develop, oversee and train “Buddies,” Mentors and other Inter-Generational Ministry Opportunities.

➢ The Associate Pastor will assist with “All Church” events.

➢ The Associate Pastor will work with the Church Administrator to create church graphics and on-line communications, under the supervision of the Lead Pastor

➢ Live within a 15 mile Radius of the Church or Relocate

➢ The Associate Pastor will inform the Church Office as well as The Lead Pastor as to how he/she may be contacted outside the church campus, coordinating work calendars. The Associate Pastor will notify the Lead Pastor or Church Administrator prior to any unforeseen absence from regularly scheduled hours, events or duties, as well as provide a suitable substitute in case of anticipated absences.

➢ The Associate Pastor will keep mandatory “Office Hours (10am-2pm, Monday through Thursday) unless notifying the Church Administrator or Lead Pastor according to the needs of the ministry. The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. It is recognized that the work schedule may vary at different times of the year.

➢ Actual hours, outside of the mandatory “Office Hours,” will be discussed and agreed upon as needed with the Lead Pastor, according to the above responsibilities.

2) Develop, Coordinate, Promote and Implement a Quality Youth Ministry and Continuing Christian Education for Ages 12-18, in the following areas:
o Instruct and Train Youth to Understand and Implement the Bible and The Message of the Gospel, into Their Lives.
o Plan, Lead and Teach Sunday School For Youth: Middle School through High School, with Assistance from Lay Youth Leaders
o Organize and Lead Youth Fellowship Activities and Programming
o Develop and lead a weekly Youth Night, as well as organize and oversee small group meetings in homes as necessary, with assistance from Lay Youth Leaders (This will include outside activities, camps and retreats.)
o Lead, Teach, Recruit, Resource and Supervise Teachers, Lay Youth Leaders and other Required Volunteers to Meet Educational and Discipleship Ministry Goals for Our Youth
o Work with Lead Pastor on the Confirmation and Baptism Process
o Meet and Communicate with the Lead Pastor Regarding Issues and Progress to These Goals Regularly
o Meet and Communicate with the Parents Regarding Issues and Progress to These Goals Regularly
o Develop and Direct Outreach Ministry Opportunities to our Surrounding Middle Schools and High Schools.
o Participate in the Preparation and Development of the Budget for the Youth Ministry
o Develop and Direct all Ministry to Youth According to the Mission and Vision of Oak Hills Church
o Align Working Hours with Student Schedules as well as Church Office and Associate Pastor Daily Demands

3) Develop, Coordinate, and Direct a Quality Worship Ministry, in the following areas:
o Submit and Work With the Vision and Direction of the Lead Pastor
o Create, Organize and Lead all Forms of Worship during the Weekend Service(s), as well as Any and All Special Church Services under the Leadership of the Lead Pastor
o Lead the Congregation into The Presence of The Lord through Congregational Worship
o Coordinate Band and Vocal Team Members to Organize and Develop a Growing Worship Ministry to Oak Hills Church
o Integrate Multi-Generational Elements of Worship for all Children and Youth Who Are Included in the General Worship Service (s)
o Oversee the Digital Venue of Worship with the Assistance of the Church Administrator and the Lay Audio-Visual Teams
o Oversee and organize the Prayer Partners After Services


The Associate Pastor plays a major role in the leadership of the church, particularly to the strategic implementation of faith development of our Children and Youth. The Associate Pastor also plays a major role in the faith development of our adults through the leading of Christ-Centered, Spirit-led and quality worship, as well as his or her personal example of faith and holiness. Therefore, Oak Hills Church seeks a person who loves God with his or her “heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:23).” We also seek an individual who has a solid understanding of the foundations of the Christian Faith, as well as in alignment with the Evangelical Covenant Denomination.

The Associate Pastor must be a person who exhibits a passion to nurture children and youth in the Christian Faith. Our Associate Pastor will demonstrate the spiritual gifts of leading worship, teaching, shepherding and administration. We seek a person who is energetic, hard-working, generates new ideas, follows through on plans, evaluates goals reached, is a contributive team player and has a healthy respect for the leadership of the Lead Pastor, as well as the leading of the Church Elders and Council. • Proficient in Music, Worship, Leading, Communication, Administration, People Skills and Teaching

• A Degree in Christian Education, Ministry and/or Leadership in Some Form is Needed. Successful Ministry Experience is also Noted.

➢ The Associate Pastor will regularly and fervently pray on behalf of him or herself, family and church ministry.

Description: The Office Administrator is responsible for the efficient operation of the church office. S/he will support the overall function and activities of the church through efficient creation and management of systems that steward the church’s resources. S/he will also be responsible for coordinating the logistics of Sunday morning service and communicating effectively with members and attendees.

Accountable to the Pastor and Leadership Team, the successful candidate will work closely with IECC staff to:

Coordinate schedule of Sunday morning participants including but not limited to ushers, scripture readers, communion servers, fellowship hosts.
Coordinate preparations for Sunday morning activities and other events.
Prepare, proof, print, and disburse weekly bulletins.
Organization and maintenance of church calendar.

Maintain and update all standard forms and ministry literature.
