Information Technology | Email Overview
All North Park University Students receive a Vikings email account for receiving important University communications and notifications regarding account information. You are expected to check this account regularly for any important communications.
Student Email
All students have a Vikings email account. Your email address is created when you are accepted as a student.
You will not be able to access your email until your passwords are synchronized. This is done via http://www.northpark.edu/account-management.
Vikings email accounts (@vikings.northpark.edu) are currently hosted by Microsoft as part of their Live.edu program and include:
- 10 GB of email storage on an Exchange email server
- Easy email access via a rich web based email client at https://outlook.com
- Your Vikings email account is also a Microsoft Live ID which gives you access to
- Live SkyDrive (25GB of online storage)
- Online versions of Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote)
Your new Vikings email account is separate from your North Park network account. Your Vikings email account provides access to your email, and other Live.edu services. Your North Park network account username provides access to all other North Park services, including WebAdvisor, My North Park, Helpdesk, and NPYou.
If you wish to utilize a non-Vikings account for your email, you will need to “pull” your email from your Vikings account into your non Vikings account. How this is done varies based on who is hosting your email (it usually involves accessing your email via POP). You may also “redirect” your Vikings email to an external account. This is done from within the Outlook.com web site via an inbox rule.
Employee Email
Email continues to be hosted on a North Park server for all North Park Employee email accounts, and all faculty and staff are encouraged to take advantage of these North Park email accounts. North Park hosted email accounts for faculty and staff come with a 3 GB quota, allowing for plenty of storage space. Your email address is the same as your North Park network username, including the @northpark.edu, and you will use the same password.
Faculty and Staff with an Employee email account can use Microsoft Outlook on their North Park supplied computer to access email, calendar, and contacts. You also may access your email account via Outlook Web Access at https://mail.northpark.edu.
