What kinds of trainings or resources are available through CYMS?
CYMS is located in a diverse community within the city of Chicago and is networked with many ministries throughout Chicagoland, as well as nationally. CYMS provides trainings on various topics in youth ministry, as well as MP3 downloads of monthly conference calls on various topics. Click here to see what resources are currently available.
Is youth ministry a viable career path? Are there jobs available?
Yes. As of February 2009, there were over 1700 youth ministry positions listed at Youth Specialties.com. There are approximately 20 youth ministry positions in Covenant Churches. There are a handful of positions posted by Urban Ministry.org, and the Urban Youth Worker Institute. You can also find a job or post your resume on our website.
What kinds of jobs are available in youth ministry?
The possibilities in youth work are endless! Some of the available positions include: youth pastor, youth worker in a para-church organization (non-profit ministry), social services, after school programs, youth arts centers, camping, college residence life staff, teaching, coaching, campus ministry and mission work.
Are there educational opportunities are available through the Center for Youth Ministry Studies (CYMS)?
The mission of CYMS is focused on training and equipping youth workers. The programs of the Center are largely non-academic, but academic youth ministry degrees are available through North Park University and North Park Theological Seminary. CYMS and its programs are integrated in the academic degrees, and there are many opportunities for training and professional development for North Park youth ministry students through CYMS programs.
