Step Team - North Park University

Step Team

The North Park Step Team was originally started in the early to mid 1990s by Vernard Jones and was re-established by Dr. Terry A. Lindsay in 2009. Stepping is a form of rhythmic dance in which the performer's entire body becomes the instrument through hand-clapping, foot-stomping, chants, spoken word and other moves. Today, the art form is recognized as a blended expression of African and African-American culture and can be seen in churches, fraternities, sororities, drill teams, military teams, and dance ensembles. Stepping is more than just a display of showmanship and athletic precision, but also a ritual used in celebrations, ceremonies, and other spaces.
