Major or Minor in Foreign Language or International Business

If you are a business & economics major with a concentration in international business or majoring/minoring in one of North Park’s languages, you need to demonstrate proficiency through the 2020 level. There are two ways in which you can meet this requirement.

1. You will be considered exempt from this requirement if you meet all of the following requirements:

• Provide transcript evidence at or above the high school level, such as results of graduation exams, that their middle school, high school or university schooling was in a language other than English. Transcripts must be translated into English and certified by a translating agency. Transcript translation by community centers, churches, relatives or consulates are not accepted.
• You are responsible for any fees associated with this process.
• Successfully complete one semester at North Park University.
• Acceptance into the major.
• Complete an additional 8 semester hours in the field of study to meet the required semester hours for the major or minor. You will need to contact the appropriate department to determine what classes would be suitable.
• You must self identify to the Office of Student Enrichment Services and Support.
• You are is subject to pay any testing and posting fees charged by North Park University or another 4-year university administering the proficiency exam.

2. You will receive 8 hours of foreign language credit if you meet all of the following requirements:

• Contact North Park University’s Foreign Language Department or another university to arrange for a proficiency exam in the chosen foreign language. At the time of testing you will need an Examination Grade Report. This is available in the Center for Academic Services.
• Demonstrates a proficiency equal to at least a second year of formal study in the chosen foreign language on the proficiency exam.
• Successfully complete one semester at North Park University.
• Acceptance into the major.
• You must self identify to the Office of Student Enrichment Services and Support.
• You are subject to pay any testing and posting fees charged by North Park University or another 4-year university administering the proficiency exam.
• You must follow the Credit by Examination guidelines.
