North Park University Ranked in Top Tier of Midwest Universities

Chicago university expects record enrollment for fall 2011

CHICAGO (September 12, 2011) — North Park University again appeared in the top tier of Midwest regional universities in U.S. News and World Report’s 2012 edition of its annual "Best Colleges" rankings. The University was tied for 58th among 146 Midwest universities on the magazine’s list.

"We are very pleased to once again be ranked in the top tier of Midwest universities," said Dr. David Parkyn, president. "All indications are that when we announce our final enrollment numbers for 2011 fall semester, North Park University will have a record incoming class of more than 650 traditional undergraduate students from 30 states and seven foreign countries."

"Our academic programs are strong and getting stronger. Since 2008, we’ve had six students or recent graduates who have received Fulbright awards for year-long international assignments. Our students are able to use the unique resources of a world-class city in which to study and learn. We’re also engaged in our most ambitious fundraising effort ever, through which we expect to begin construction on a new science and community life building in 2012," he said.

"All of these attributes point to a great future for North Park University," Parkyn added.

North Park University, founded in 1891, is known for its three emphases: distinctively Christian, intentionally urban, and purposefully multicultural. Courses are offered at North Park’s four campuses throughout the Chicagoland area, including the main Chicago campus, plus satellite campuses in Arlington Heights, Grayslake, and Waukegan. Full-time tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year is $20,900.

Criteria applied by U.S. News and World Report to evaluate regional universities included peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, and alumni giving.

Beginning in 1983, U.S. News and World Report has published annual rankings of colleges and universities nationwide. Nearly 1,400 accredited schools are included in its annual survey.
