North Park Justice Summit and Chicago Reload to Provide Live Webcasts
Viewers will be able to see Cornel West, Jim Wallis, other speakers live
CHICAGO (March 14, 2012) – Viewers throughout the United States and beyond will be able to watch well-known speakers such as Cornel West and Jim Wallis live as they present at the North Park Justice Summit and Chicago Reload, March 23-24. Live webcasts of conference plenary speakers will be offered on the website of North Park University, Chicago, which is hosting the event.
"This event is a powerful example of North Park's desire to address issues of justice driven by our Christian faith," said Nate Mouttet, University vice president for enrollment and marketing. "We want everyone to experience these thought-provoking speakers, so expanding the coverage of these events through live-streaming means that no one has to miss this event."
Nearly 500 people are registered to attend the full conference, including plenary speakers, workshops, and other networking opportunities. The live webcasts make it possible for people who cannot attend in person to see the plenary speakers only, with online enhancements such as live chat, photos, and a conference schedule, said Dr. Jon Boyd, director of communications, University Marketing and Communications. The Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), Chicago, is expected to simultaneously carry the webcasts on its website, he added. North Park University is affiliated with the ECC.
The schedule calls for five live webcasts (all times Central Daylight Time):
Friday, March 23
- 9:00 am, Rev. Jim Wallis, president and chief executive officer of Sojourners, Washington, D.C., commentator, and author of God's Politics and other books.
- 1:15 pm, Rev. Judy Peterson, campus pastor, North Park University Ministries
- 7:00 pm Dr. Cornel West, Princeton (N.J.) University professor, commentator, civil rights activist, and author of Race Matters and other books
Saturday, March 24
- 9:00 am Rev. Dr. Soong Chan-Rah, associate professor of church growth and evangelism, North Park Theological Seminary
- 3:00 pm Rev. Harvey Carey, senior pastor, Citadel of Faith Covenant Church, Detroit
The two-day event combines Chicago Reload, an annual event for urban youth workers hosted by the University, with a new Justice Summit to expand the audience and dig deeper into the subject of justice from a Christian perspective, focusing on systemic issues and policies.
People who want to attend the conference in person and interact with social justice leaders still have that opportunity – registration is available online through March 21. Justice Summit and Chicago Reload sponsors are three University entities: University Ministries, Campus Theme Committee, and the Center for Youth Ministry Studies.
