Campus to Host Parent and Family Weekend 2007

CHICAGO, IL (April 16, 2007) – In an effort to show parents and family members of current North Park students that they, too, are important members of the greater North Park family, the University is hosting Parent and Family Weekend 2007 on April 20-22. Parents and family members of all ages are invited to campus to enjoy a variety of events and opportunities designed to provide quality time and memories with their North Park student.

On Friday, April 20, families can choose between two evening campus performances – the School of Music Benefit Concert, featuring renowned musicians Alex Klein (oboist), Ricardo Castro (pianist) and Richard Young (violist) at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Chapel, or the Theatre Department's spring musical Kung Fu Suburbia at 8 p.m. in the Lecture Hall Auditorium.

Saturday, April 21 begins with a Family Breakfast in Magnuson Campus Center at 8:30 a.m. North Park vans will then depart at 10 a.m. for a Chicago Museum Campus tour. Families are invited to reconvene at 5 p.m. that evening for a reception hosted by President David Parkyn and Linda Parkyn at their home (5258 N. Spaulding Avenue). Activity choices that evening include Kung Fu Suburbia once again or the Gospel Choir concert in Anderson Chapel at 7:30 p.m.

The weekend wraps up on Sunday, April 22 with the option of a women's softball game at 11 a.m. at the Holmgren Athletic Complex, where the Vikings will take on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans. Later that afternoon, the final performance of Kung Fu Suburbia will take place at 3 p.m.

Throughout the weekend, the Viking Café will be open for parents and families to relax and enjoy refreshments.

To make reservations to attend any of the events listed above, parents and families should contact the Office of Student Development.
