Nonprofit Expert Leaves NYC to Assume Directorship of The Axelson Center

CHICAGO, IL (March 1, 2007) – The Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management at North Park University is pleased to announce that Pier Rogers, Ph.D. assumed the position of director of The Axelson Center and professor of nonprofit management on March 1. Dr. Rogers replaces Melissa Morriss-Olson, Ph.D., who founded The Center in 1999 and continued as director through August 2006.

In reflecting on Rogers' appointment, Wesley Lindahl, Ph.D., director of the School of Business and Nonprofit Management at North Park, shared, "I am delighted to have Pier join us as the new director of the Axelson Center. She brings a wealth of experience and terrific academic preparation for this position. Her leadership will continue the tremendous growth we have experienced over the past eight years at The Axelson Center." Dr. Rogers has spent over 25 years in the nonprofit field and has been active in the nonprofit research community nationally since the early 1990s. Most recently she served as the associate executive director of the National Association of Social Workers, New York City Chapter. She has taught extensively at various institutions including Yale (PONPO), Fordham University, and for seven years full-time at the New School University, Robert J. Milano Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy as an assistant professor.

Rogers has a Ph.D. from New York University in organizational theory, urban analysis, and managerial analysis, a master's degree in social work and Afro-American studies from Boston University, and a B.A. in philosophy and political science from Wellesley College. She has presented and published broadly in the field of nonprofit management.

Rogers joins Jimmie R. Alford, CFRE C'66, chair of The 2007 Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management Symposium, in the final months of preparation for the annual May event, expected to draw over 700 nonprofit professionals from across the Chicago area. The Symposium is a key program of North Park University's Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management, established to enhance the performance and effectiveness of organizations and individuals in the nonprofit sector through education and service.
