CHICAGO, IL (January 8, 2007) – When the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears face off this Sunday at 12 p.m. CST at Soldier Field, North Parkers may be alone among faithful Chicagoans in that they may not be certain for whom they should cheer.

The Chicago Bears are, of course, the hometown team. More importantly, however, North Park graduates Brian McCaskey C’82 and Barb McCaskey C’89 are members of the family that founded and still owns the Bears. Brian is senior director of business development for the organization.

Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Mike Holmgren has an honorary doctorate from North Park, while his wife Kathy Holmgren C’69, four daughters, and two sons-in-law have all studied here. Kathy was honored as the University’s Distinguished Alumna of the Year last fall during Homecoming. In honor of the Holmgrens' faithful support of North Park through the years, the University’s football field is known as the Holmgren Athletic Complex, while the upper level of the new Helwig Recreation Center, opened last fall, is the Mike and Kathy Holmgren Mezzanine.

Over the past 12 years, both McCaskey and Holmgren have played a significant part in the success of North Park’s Golf for Kids program, benefiting youth in the Albany Park area of Chicago and providing camp scholarships for students at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp in Lake Geneva.
