Online Auction to Support Missions Continues to Raise Funds
CHICAGO, IL (March 13, 2007) – University Ministries already has raised $4,000 through an on-campus auction and Student Association donations to fund North Park University mission trips, and hopes to add even more with an online auction
that continues through Sunday.
Items include tickets to White Sox and Cubs games; dinner for six with North Park President David Parkyn and his wife, Linda; hand-woven baskets from Zambia; and a guided tour of the Art Institute. Although most of the items require a person to live in Chicago, they can be given as gifts by people from around the country.
"The money is used to create a scholarship fund that students can apply for to help with the cost of their trip," says Janelle Keller, Global Outreach coordinator. "Some students wouldn't be able to participate in the trips if not for the auctions."
Roughly 130 students will participate in Global Outreach mission trips around the world this year, Keller says. Students have an array of opportunities, including construction, working in orphanages and camps, and teaching English in locations around the world. Trips will cost anywhere from $150 to $2,500 per person, Keller says.
This is the fifth year the auction has been held at the University.
