Midsummer Fest a Success

On Saturday, June 23, members of the North Park community donned their traditional Swedish garb and gathered on the campus of North Park University to take part in the Second Annual Midsummer Fest. The day began at noon with the opening of the Market, where local vendors sold their wares and advertised their services. Honorary Consul General of Sweden Kerstin Lane offered a word of welcome, which was followed by a traditional and very colorful dance around the maypole.

Performances by the Nordic Dancers of Chicago; Spelmanslaget; and Aal Tour America, a Norwegian performance group of 100-plus Norwegian youths, highlighted the afternoon.

Midsummer Fest was sponsored by North Park’s Center for Scandinavian Studies, which provides various academic and cultural events linking present-day Scandinavians to their heritage.
