University Ministries Hosts First-Ever Vive Conference

CHICAGO, IL (November 4, 2007) – North Park University Ministries recently hosted 30 students of color from Evangelical Covenant Churches for the first-ever Vive Conference. The students came from as close as Chicago and as far away as Hawaii, says director Rich Johnson.

Campus pastor Judy Peterson and Harvey Carey, pastor of Citadel of Faith Covenant Church in Detroit, Michigan, challenged the students to become future leaders.

The event gave the students the opportunity to experience multicultural music and worship, two college preparatory workshops and a trip to downtown Chicago.

Many of the students came from ethnic and multi-ethnic churches visited by North Park worship teams over the summer, says Mark Olson, dean of enrollment and director of church relations. "Currently, we are very under-represented in our student body by these churches." He added that the school is working hard to improve that representation.
