Terence Fretheim, professor of Old Testament at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, wrote that Laytham’s article was, “Wide-ranging, knowledgeable, careful, and clear. The author has a firm grasp of the difficult issues faced in this discussion and presents a balanced, thoughtful reflection.”

Laytham was not the only member of the seminary community to be recognized during the convention. President and Dean John E. Phelan earned an honorable mention in the Theological Reflection (short format) for his commentary “The Third Temptation.” The article also appeared in the Companion, for which he writes a monthly column.
