North Park Honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
CHICAGO, IL (January 16, 2008) – February is Black History Month, and by way of beginning that celebration North Park University will be holding a service in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Center for Africana Studies and University Ministries are working together to sponsor the service, which will take place on Monday, January 21, at 10:30 a.m. in Anderson Chapel.
The theme of the service is "Fittin' In" and will be tied in to Black History Month. Each week in February, a different topic will be addressed through spoken word, music, service projects, and recognition:
Week One – Life before, during, and after North Park University
Week Two – Cultural awareness without isolation
Week Three – Assimilation without sacrifice
Week Four – I B me, U B U (being comfortable with oneself)
The January 21 service will feature Rev. Troy Patterson, an adjunct professor at North Park who is also an associate minister at West Point Mission Church in Chicago.
