Peterson Impacts Students at Youth Retreat

Judy Peterson at Winterfest

GLEN SPEY, NY (January 8, 2008) - Judy Howard Peterson knew she was asking more than 400 teenagers to do something most people find difficult. Drawing from her painful experiences, including multiple miscarriages, the North Park University campus chaplain exhorted the students to find the beautiful in other people and in the most difficult of situations.

Peterson was one of several speakers at Winterfest, a weekend event sponsored by the East Coast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The retreat was held during the weekend of January 4 at Lake Champion, a Young Life camp.

“To a person, every single parent has said their kid was impacted by [Peterson],” says event organizer Johnny Agurkis, pastor at Covenant Congregational Church in North Easton, Massachusetts, and an organizer of the event. “One parent said she was hands down the best speaker we’ve had.”

In addition to worship and workshops, the students enjoyed multiple indoor and outdoor activities, including Frisbee golf in the snow, ropes courses, and a talent show.
