Seminary Faculty Among "Best of the Christian Press"
Phelan and Laytham earn writing awards in annual competition
CHICAGO (May 21, 2009) – The Associated Church Press (ACP) has honored two members of the North Park Theological Seminary community with awards in its annual Best of the Christian Press competition.
Seminary president and dean Jay Phelan and professor of theology D. Brent Laytham were recognized for articles that appeared in The Covenant Companion
, a publication of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Phelan, who has previously won awards from the ACP as well as the Evangelical Press Association, earned an Honorable Mention (third place) for “Markings,” his monthly column. He also earned an Honorable Mention for his editorial, “Watch Your Mouth,” published in the February issue.
Laytham earned an Award of Merit (second place) in the Seasonal Article category for “The Strong Bracing Season of Advent,” published in the November issue. And The Covenant Companion
took third place in the Top Denominational Magazine category.
Nearly 200 publications are members of ACP. It is the oldest religious press association in North America, with a combined readership of several million subscribers.
