Al Tizon delivers Westerdahl Lectures

CHICAGO, IL (February 9, 2008) - Al Tizon will deliver the Westerdahl Lectures at North Park Theological Seminary on March 9.

Tizon is the director of Word & Deed Network of the Evangelicals for Social Action/Sider Center for Ministry and Public Policy. He authored two books last year— Linking Arms, Linking Lives, exhorting churches to partner across the “urban-suburban” divide for community transformation; and Transformation after Lausanne, documenting the transformational movement around the world, specifically in the Philippines.

An Evangelical Covenant Church minister, Tizon also is assistant professor of holistic ministry at Palmer (formerly Eastern) Theological Seminary in Wynnewood, Penn.

He will focus on the theme, “The Missional Imperative: Preaching as if the World Matters.” It will be presented through two lectures: “The Necessity for Missional Preaching” and “The Elements of Missional Preaching.”

The Westerdahl Lectures begin at 9 a.m., and are free and open to the public.

The Carl G. Westerdahl Lectureship in Evangelism began in 1964 through establishment of an endowment fund by the Westerdahl family in memory of the late Reverend Carl G. Westerdahl, noted Covenant preacher and evangelist. The first series of lectures was presented in the winter quarter of 1966.
