North Park Wins "Winter Wear Drive"

CHICAGO, IL (January 27, 2009) – For the second year in a row, the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) put forth another successful conference-wide service project.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) at each of the CCIW schools took part in the conference's second annual service project, collecting 1,395 winter clothing items over the last two months for the CCIW's "Winter Wear Drive: Keeping Our Communities Warm". This number topped last year's shoe donation drive where CCIW schools collected 1,246 pairs of shoes.

CCIW institutions competed against one another in the collection of winter clothing items and donated those items to a charity of their choice. North Park was this year's winner with 380 items collected, followed by Carthage (322), North Central (285), Illinois Wesleyan (232) and Wheaton (176).

As the winner, North Park received prize money for collecting the most items for this year's event. Carthage won the shoe donation drive last season.

"Once again our member schools worked extremely hard and put forth a tremendous amount of effort in conducting another successful service project," CCIW assistant commissioner Mike Krizman said. "There's been a lot of positive feedback and we'll continue to conduct these service projects and give back to our communities."
