Phillips Records First Career Double Double

North Park University Women's Basketball

The North Park women’s basketball team fell 62-50 to host Elmhurst College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday afternoon.

North Park started the game strong as it pulled ahead 5-0 on a three-pointer and a lay-up from junior Larisa Coldebella (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect). The Vikings then later held a nine-point advantage at 13-4 on a basket from senior Stylianee Damianides (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South). But Elmhurst fought back with 19-1 scoring run to pull ahead 23-14 at the 6:30 mark and 31-22 at halftime.

NP trimmed the deficit to seven at the start of the second half on a lay-up from senior Amanda Phillips (Bolingbrook, Ill./Lakeland C.C.), but Elmhurst’s offensive output over the seven minutes proved to be too much for the visitors as the Vikings fell behind 44-28.

Phillips recorded the first double-double of her North Park career as she scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Coldebella finished with a team-high 16 points, while senior LaRae Kostreva (Menominee, Mich./Menominee) was the only other Viking in double figures with 12 points. Lyndsie Long led Elmhurst with a game-high 17 points.

North Park (3-18, 0-11) returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts North Central College at 7:30 p.m.
