Members of U.S. Congress Give Briefing at North Park
CHICAGO (October 11, 2010) – U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and U.S. Representative Mike Quigley led a 7 member government panel which reported on their recent legislative activities to an audience of local business leaders. The event was held in Hamming Hall on the North Park campus, Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 am. The panel was moderated by North Park University Provost Dr. Joseph Jones.
The Sauganash Community Council partnered with North Park University to host the legislative briefing, which also included numerous members of state and local government. State Senator Ira Silverstein, State Representative John D’Amico, State Representative Deborah Mell, Alderman Margaret Laurino, and Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer, in addition to Durbin and Quigley, addressed approximately 60 business and community leaders.
Each member of the panel gave a brief update on their current legislative projects, including the promotion of green business practices, senior wellness, local school improvements and the limitation of cell phone use while driving. North Park University Provost Joseph Jones moderated discussion following each presentation, which included questions from the audience. In attendance were representatives of the Albany Park Community Center, Peterson Pulaski Business and Industrial Council, Pulaski Elston Business Association, and the Sauganash Community Council.
Richard "Dick" Durbin is the senior U.S. Senator from Illinois and currently serves as the Democratic Party Whip. He was reelected in November 2008 for a term ending in January 2015.
Mike Quigley was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Illinois’ 5th district, on April 7, 2009. Quigley is a former Cook County Commissioner.
