Alumni Profile: Nick Jefferson

As housing coordinator at the Albany Park Neighborhood Council (APNC), Nick Jefferson C ’12 advises renters who face eviction because they live in foreclosed buildings. He also works with a citywide coalition to change local housing policies to give renters more rights. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina and a yearlong study abroad experience in Austria, Nick wanted to work in community development and experience new cultures. His internship at APNC, a requirement in the conflict transformation program, helped him do just that and turned into a job after graduation. “The conflict transformation program offers a lot of flexibility and allows students to dip their toes into different issues and organizations,” he said.
