Local Covenant Church Archives
Each congregation within the Evangelical Covenant Church is unique and has a special place in the denomination. Its story needs to be remembered and communicated to others and to new generations. It is the responsibility of each congregation to maintain its own archives.
The church should appoint an archivist and/or archives committee from the congregation to organize and care for the church archives. Most archival records are irreplaceable and should be managed according to guidelines and methods.
The Commission on Covenant History wishes to help congregations in this task and has published a short booklet listing the types of materials to preserve, suggestions on storage environment, materials, and how to organize the material, as well as some tips on preservation.

The stories congregations tell are important insights into a church's history, and conducting oral history interviews is a way to collect these stories. The Commission on Covenant History encourages oral history projects and has published a brief guide to collecting oral history, including such topics as developing a project, preparing for the interview, selecting equipment, and more.
Transferring Church Records
Congregations are expected to maintain their own archives. The Covenant Archives and Historical Library will make arrangements to receive the records of a congregation if the records are at risk because of preservation issues or other circumstances. When a Church Closes
Records from congregations are transferred to the Archives when a congregation closes or, occasionally, when a congregation merges with another. Read about transferring materials before you contact the archives.
