  • Sent Items are deleted if they over 150 days old.
  • Drafts are deleted if they are over 90 days old.
  • Deleted Items are deleted if they are over 30 days old.
  • Deleted Items may be recovered using “Recover Deleted Items” for 14 days after deletion.
  • Junk E-Mail folder items are deleted if they are over 30 days old.
  • Outbox items are deleted if they are over 30 days old

Spam and Antivirus

Employee email accounts are protected by a gateway that scans all incoming email for spam emails, phishing emails, viruses, and forbidden attachments.

The spam.northpark.edu spam gateway website allows you to manage your mailbox filtering settings online, and by default it will send a weekly quarantine report email containing a list of blocked items. At that website, you can change how often you receive spam reports, set email addresses to always allow, always block, and view and release your quarantined items.

Our spam filter is set to a high intercept level, so check your report carefully. The gateway forbids certain attachments deemed security risks, including .exe, .com, .bat, .pif, and others. Files that are forbidden or contain viruses may not be released. You can now block messages based upon language as well.

Client Configuration

Employee email accounts may be accessed on the web via Outlook Web Access.  Access via other clients is not supported by Information Technology, but basic configuration information is provided below:

  • IMAP Server: mail.northpark.edu, SSL required
  • SMTP Server: smtp.northpark.edu
All outbound SMTP email from on campus must be routed through this server. This SMTP server cannot be accessed from the internet.
