Subject Headings to search in the Library Catalog

The Brandel Library has a large collection of religious and theological books, many of which focus on Paul and his writings. Therefore, you might want to do a subject search on these topics to discover more information. To do a subject search:

  1. Click on the Library Catalog
  2. Click on the Guided Keyword Search Link
  3. Copy and paste one of the two following (sample) subject headings into the first box:

    Bible. N.T. Epistles of Paul Criticism, interpretation, etc.

    Paul, the Apostle, Saint


  4. Make sure that "all of these words" is selected in the box to the right side.
  5. In the far right text box, select "subject words" as your entry.
  6. You can also add other topic words in the next two search box, though you should be careful not to make your search too specific.
  7. Click on the Search button.

 Databases and Web Resources

ATLA Religion Database is an index to journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion. More than 600 journals are indexed annually. The database includes more than 1.3 million bibliographic records for journal articles, more than 200,000 essay citations, and more than 400,000 book review citations. Links are provided to 100,000 full text articles from more than fifty journals. This database is produced by the American Theological Library Association.

  2. Click on Databases A-Z and then click on ATLA Religion Database.

Websites can be unreliable because anyone can create them regardless of their authority on the subject matter. When writing a research paper, the use of websites should be kept to a minimum and limited to those sponsored by well-known authorities or organizations.


http://www.biblegateway.com/ is an excellent way to search several versions of the Bible by passage (Philippians 4: 6-9) or keyword (prayer and petition).
