In order to find any of these resources, To access the databases,

  1. go to the library homepage and click on Databases/Articles in the column on the left.
  2. Click on Databases by A-Z and then find your database (listed alphabetically by name).

  3. Study Demographics: Check the Community Profiles, Chicago Fact Book, and Most Affluent Communities. Compiled from other sources, such as the City of Chicago and Census Bureau, these pages will lead you to lots of data. Explore.
FINDING AND USING CENSUS 2000 DATA
For data on population, housing, social characteristics (education, family, etc), and economics (income, employment, etc).
  1. Go to http://www.census.gov and click on American FactFinder (in list at left).
  2. In “Get a fact sheet for your community” type in the requested information (city, county, or zip code)
  3. For more detailed information, remember to click on the “show more” after each category (social, economic, etc.)
  4. Click on Economic Census to get more business information. Under “Data for all sectors” click on “zip code statistics.” Fill in your zip code. At the bottom of the page is a link to “Zip Code Business Patterns” which will give you annual stats for 5 years.

  3. Select the area you are interested in (e.g., education)
