Research Guide: Education
Finding Books :
For students taking classes on campus at North Park University, the easiest way to start finding books is to search the library catalog. (For help in searching the online catalog, see here.) Often, a subject search will give you more focused information on a topic. To perform a subject search, type a word into the catalog, and then select "Subject" in the box to the right.
Popular sample subject words in the area of education:
- Education
- Curriculum
- Assessment
Many books on this subject can be found on the second floor of the library, but other subject areas will also be helpful.

Finding Database Articles:
Begin by searching the list of databases by subject under your category. If you'd like to try to search them all at once, try the multisearch. Remember to decide if you'd like to search just for books or articles, and to try to narrow your search by picking one area to search (perhaps education?).
If you'd like to search individual databases, try the following from our Databases A-Z list:
- ERIC is a great government sponsored resource which indexes current education research. It does not have a lot of full-text, so be prepared to do your research early and interlibrary loan needed articles.
- PsycInfo is a psychology database which carries quite a few articles about education and childhood development.
- KCDL (Kraus Curriculum Development Library) offers many curriculum standards by state or country, subject area, educational level, and accrediting body. Many are in full-text.
- Academic Search Premier also offers several educational articles, both in research journals and in popular magazines and newspapers.
- If you are focused on education within a particular subject area (such as science or history), try the databases in that subject area as well.
