University Anticipates Holmgren at Super Bowl
Former Seattle Seahawk's head coach will cover pregame report
TAMPA BAY, FL (January 30, 2009) – After more than 20 years of coaching in the NFL, recently retired Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren is traveling to Tampa Bay with NBC’s broadcast team to cover Super Bowl XLIII on Sunday, February 1.
Holmgren, who received his honorary doctor of laws from North Park University in 1997, will join former Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy as a commentator during the pregame report at noon ET, NBC Sports chief Dick Ebersol announced last week.
“What I have learned is that in addition to their obvious Super Bowl credentials, Mike and Tony share extraordinary storytelling ability,” Ebersol said. “We are excited to have them make their broadcast debuts with us.”
Prior to coaching the Seahawks, Holmgren famously led the Green Bay Packers to a championship title in Super Bowl XXXI, and has been regarded as one of the best coaches in the NFL. During his tenures in San Francisco, Green Bay, and Seattle, he helped mold quarterbacks such as Joe Montana, Steve Young, Brett Favre, and Matt Hasselbeck.
