Koubsky Named New Women's Rowing Coach
CHICAGO, IL (July 13, 2010) – The North Park athletic department introduced Allison Koubsky as its new head women’s rowing coach this week.
Koubsky, who has served as the graduate assistant, assistant coach and interim head coach for the women’s rowing program since 2007, succeeds founding head coach Tim Grant.
“Allison Koubsky combines two essential passions as she takes over the reigns of our rowing program…she loves rowing and she loves North Park University,” North Park Athletic Director Jack Surridge said. “She stepped into the gap as interim head coach when Tim Grant was unable to continue and did a terrific job with our current team in the sprint season and also in bringing in our best recruiting class to date.”
Koubsky, a native of St. Cloud, Minnesota, is the most decorated athlete in North Park women’s rowing history. As a student-athlete she earned over 22 medals, including three from the Dad Vail National Regatta (2004, 2005, 2006). She was a Dad Vail National Regatta Champion in 2004 and graduated from North Park in the spring of 2007. In recognition of her athletic achievements, she was honored by the department as the Female Sportsperson of the Year.
“I have been very fortunate to be a part of this successful program as a student-athlete, a graduate assistant and now the Head Coach,” Koubsky said. “Over the past seven years, I have been lucky enough to be mentored by a top coach in Tim Grant and I am proud to say he has been a very strong influence in making me the person and coach I am today. I am very humbled by this opportunity and I am excited to get to work.”
Over its seven-year existence as a varsity program, North Park women’s rowing has earned numerous gold, silver and bronze medals, including a gold medal championship at the National Dad Vail Regatta and the Mid-America Collegiate Rowing Association (MACRA) Championships in 2004.
“In order to be a quality recruiter, you have to believe in what you are selling,” Koubsky said. “I truly believe in this program and the Division III experience we have here at North Park University."
